By safaa KasraouiRabat – William Salice, Creator of the highly popular and loved chocolate egg Kinder Surprise died on 29 December.Salice, began his career in 1960, joining the Ferrero food group and becoming the right-hand man to company boss Michele Ferrero. In the spirit of invention, Salice was looking for a way to present the chocolate egg that was unfamiliar and out of the ordinary. The result was the Kinder Surprise egg chocolate, a beloved chocolate treat, cherished by children worldwide. Each small chocolate egg hides a special surprise, a small plastic toy the children get to piece together themselves. Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs have been a best seller for over 40 years now.Ironically, Kinder Surprise eggs are actually banned in the United States under a 1938 law which bans the insertion of any objects into food products, passed after a young girl choked on one of the little plastic parts. In Chile they were banned last summer under new legislation to fight obesity. In spite of these restrictions, Kinder Surprise is still making impressive profits in several areas including the Middle East and Africa.
