(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)With ESPN’s College GameDay visiting UCF’s campus today, the rivalry between Kirk Herbstreit and the Knights is on display. For the past few weeks, Herbstreit has made it abundantly clear that he’s not high on the Knights. Despite all program’s success, he can’t get past the team’s inferior opponents.Although strength of schedule isn’t the only factor taken into consideration when comparing resumes, Herbstreit believes it’s the biggest reason the Knights won’t make the College Football Playoff.Even with UCF’s crowd roaring behind him, the ESPN analyst didn’t hesitate to state that the Knights haven’t faced tough opponents.Kirk Herbstreit just got massive boos for saying UCF would be in the playoff if it played better opponents, but he’s absolutely right. UCF will never get in unless the Knights play – and beat – stronger opponents.— Justiñ Hubbard (@JHubb93) November 17, 2018That could change tonight, when UCF hosts Cincinnati in a battle of premier AAC programs. It’d be frustrating if the Knights went perfect in consecutive seasons, but didn’t have a chance at the playoff. Yet, the weak non-conference schedule is partly the program’s own fault.Whether UCF fans want to admit the truth or not, the Knights most likely won’t be competing for the national championship.
