FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Hannah Brister and Houston Baptist’s Hannah Lewis open up the year as the Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. All weekly awards are presented by MidSouth Bank.Brister helped the Lady Demons to a 2-1 start last weekend with a pair of wins at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The junior played in 11 sets for NSU, logging 59 kills for a 5.4 per-set average. Northwestern State will now take on Jackson State tonight at 6 p.m. CT in Jackson, Miss.Lewis led her Houston Baptist squad to a 2-1 record at home in the 2019 Barcelona Sports Invitational over the weekend. The senior provided 38 digs over three matches, averaging 5.43 per set. HBU will square off against Prairie View A&M on the road tonight at 6:30 p.m.Offensive Player of the Week: Hannah Brister, Northwestern State – Jr. – Outside Hitter – Paincourtville, La.Brister propelled the Lady Demons to a 2-1 record in the Arkansas Invitational, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. Brister totaled 59 kills across the weekend with a .277 hitting percentage, averaging 5.4 kills per set and 19.7 per match. She added 3.2 digs per set on 35 digs on the weekend.
